Typical dishes of the Camino de Santiago
Among the almost infinite benefits that the Camino de Santiago offers, one of the most emblematic is its gastronomic wealth, winning the hearts of pilgrims who have fallen in love with one or more dishes during the tour.
You can easily find the most typical dishes on the market. Likewise, the hostels that are found along the different routes of the Camino offer the Pilgrim’s Menu, which combines the best of the localities.
Potatoes Riojana’s style
It is one of the strong dishes par excellence, with a great flavor given by its characteristic ingredients. They are potatoes stewed with onion, peppers and chorizo, it is easy to prepare, but the quality will depend on the products you choose.
Octopus at the fair
One of the emblematic dishes of the Galician gastronomy adopted by the Camino, it is an octopus cooked in water until it softens. Then it is served sliced with paprika and olive oil. Although they can be served as tapas, it is a main dish and is well known during the holiday season.
Bacalao Al Ajoarriero
Plate associated with the old muleteers who transported merchandise throughout the peninsula. It is a dish served hot and its origins are not fully clarified, a traditional recipe from the north-central part of the peninsular region.
It is a cod prepared in lard, vegetables such as peppers to taste, parsley, potatoes, olive oil and salt. Its preparation depends on the recipe of the locality where you try it.
Galician soup
It is one of the simplest and well-known dishes of Galician cuisine, popular in very cold seasons. It is a broth that carries a large amount of cooked vegetables and in the preparation it is typical to use lard, chorizo, bacon or meat, which are responsible for giving it its exquisite flavor.
Garlic soup
Also known as Castilian soup, it is a soup that varies from the hand of whoever prepares it. It involves boiling it in a water or broth base accompanied by bread, eggs, peppers, chorizo or Serrano ham and lots of garlic. It is easy to prepare because it was a soup made with the available ingredients.
